The field laboratory experiment seeks to understand how the social norms and behaviors of rural communities under conditions of water scarcity reveal information about their rules for water allocation, and how new factors may be affecting these rules. In co-management agreements for natural resources, the observability of individual endowments and behaviors is key for monitoring—especially during periods of scarcity—which in turn helps define governance rules (Bernedo Del Carpio et al., 2021; Ellison et al., 2019).
