Today we welcomed Professor Eschenhagen María Luisa, an expert in environmental education, to Quibdó (Chocó). She launched the training process to incorporate environmental sustainability into the vocational education curriculum of teachers at the Instituto Técnico Rentic (ITR), in collaboration with Ekonomihögskolan vid Lunds universitet. ITR-Rentic trains students in robotics, software, telecommunications, and entrepreneurship, in partnership with CISCO and Mikrotik, and is recognized by MIT’s FABLAB.
Special thanks to Ana Mercedes Sarria Palacio (Universidad Tecnológica del Chocó), Bayron Mena (founder of ITR–Rentic), and all the teachers for generously sharing their work and time with us.
This initiative is part of the SURCO project, funded by Formas, ett forskningsråd för hållbar utveckling, which seeks to strengthen local capacities and build a more sustainable and relevant education for the territories of La Guajira, Sucre, and Chocó. With this step, SURCO and Ekonomihögskolan vid Lunds universitet continue to share alternative paths toward socio-technological innovation and the sustainable development of Chocó, the Atrato River, and its people.
