New Book on Ancestral Water Governance in the Colombian Caribbean
Updated: 10 hours ago
The Universidad Externado de Colombia (UEC) has published the book Alternative Pathways towards Ancestral Water Governance in the Colombian Caribbean: Pact for the Yanama – Intercultural Dialogue for Human and Sustainable Development, developed within the framework of the SURCO project.
The book is not only about the Wayúu people but was co-produced with Wayúu leaders, creating a space for intercultural dialogue to share knowledge, experiences, and perspectives on ancestral water governance.
The publication proposes a holistic understanding of water: as territory, knowledge, social relations, and a vital element. From this perspective, water governance is closely interconnected with challenges such as climate change and biodiversity loss.
The book also highlights the importance of going beyond purely technical responses and creating spaces where different ways of knowing, understanding, and relating to water can meet and engage in dialogue.
This publication is the result of collaborative work involving researchers, Wayúu leaders, and communities connected to the SURCO project, with contributions from Elin Weyler, Malin Mobjörk, and the Lund University School of Economics and Management, among other collaborators.
